Premature Bottlification

Bottlification
A term used to describe a team (football – Cardiff City) who consistently fail to gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League

Term was first used by a member of the Planet Swans forum, a message board run by and for fans of Swansea City Football Club. Swansea were the first Welsh team to gain promotion and play in the Premier League, and at the first attempt. Cardiff City have tried and failed to gain promotion on numerous times.

Much Munch!

As a youngster I was never really into art, paintings, ballet, theatre, that sort of stuff, but I was always quite intrigued by Edvard Munch’s famous masterpiece The Scream. There was something about the painting that always registered with me. It’s scary looking at first, but when you look more closely you see other things. It’s probably the sign of a good painting that anyone viewing it can see whatever they want in it.

Anyway, the 1895 pastel version of it is going up for sale in May and if you want it, then have at least £50 million in your pocket before you start bidding!

Some years ago when I was an avid Atari ST user I purchased a graphics software program called Munch. Written by a Norwegian called Vegard Hofsøy it was a rather clever program that did all sorts of groovy art type stuff, although I never ever produced anything as interesting as The Scream sadly!

Guernica

On April 26th 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, a massive air raid was made by the German Luftwaffe on the Basque town of Guernica in Northern Spain. Hundreds were killed in an incident which horrified the world. The bombing prompted the artist Picasso to begin painting his greatest masterpiece… Guernica.

There’s a fascinating story on the BBC website which tells how the painting ended up being exhibited as a fund raiser in a garage in Manchester, northern England in 1939. Read the report here.
